A New State Lobbying Handbook: Seeking Your Input (FREE Event)

September 18 @ 1:00 pm 2:30 pm CDT

Virtual Workshop – Live/Online
Fee: FREE

Recent years have seen significant changes to Minnesota’s laws on registering as a lobbyist and reporting lobbying activity. In response, the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board (CFB) is developing a new handbook to help advocates navigate these laws clearly and confidently.

And here’s the good news: the Legislature has required the CFB to consult with nonprofit advocates in the process. That includes individuals who lobby as part of broader roles, not just contract lobbyists, and advocates representing smaller organizations and communities of color. See the legislative directive.

Join us for a special session to make your voice heard. We’ll walk through a draft outline of the new handbook and ask for your input on what needs to be included. What’s confusing? What’s missing? What would make lobbying compliance clearer and more accessible for nonprofits?

We’ll be joined by Jeff Sigurdson, Executive Director of the CFB, so the Board can hear directly from Minnesota’s nonprofits.

You don’t need to be a registered lobbyist to attend, just someone who’s navigated registration and reporting and supported advocacy in your organization.

Let’s make sure Minnesota’s new lobbying guidance works for nonprofits. Your experience matters, and you can help shape a tool that will support many others.
