New National/State Data Shows Vital Impact of America’s Charitable Nonprofits
The National Council of Nonprofits has released a new report, Nonprofit Impact Matters, which tells the story of the nonprofit community from the nonprofit perspective using state and national data. The report brings together fresh data about nonprofits, places that data into real‑world context, and applies practical analysis, all designed to share insights on the significant impact that America’s charitable nonprofits have in strengthening communities and improving lives.
“Minnesota nonprofits are the cornerstones of communities from Roseau to Austin, providing critical services that strengthen our communities and improve lives,” said Jon Pratt, executive director of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN). “The impact of our nonprofits can be felt well beyond the services they provide. In fact, these organizations employ approximately 15 percent of the state’s workforce — they are economic engines with far reaching impact on both the state and national economy.”
Pratt added, “MCN is delighted that our national partner, the National Council of Nonprofits, has shared the report on trends across the country, because that information puts into context how important nonprofits are here in Minnesota.”
Despite their vital role in American communities, nonprofits face a growing number of challenges to their future, including policy proposals that would disrupt their work. What’s more, government actions are limiting incentives for charitable giving, contributing to a growing and troubling trend of decreasing donations.
“This report demonstrates how charitable nonprofits impact the lives of very American in ways they may not even be aware of,” said Tim Delaney, president and CEO of the National Council of Nonprofits. “We wrote the report to inform the 12.3 million nonprofit employees, 64 million board members and volunteers, and tens of millions of donors, all of whom are working so hard to advance their particular mission, so they could see the trends around them. We firmly believe that if a critical mass of people connected to nonprofits learn more about what nonprofits share in common and how their interests are aligned, then nonprofits can advance their missions even further to shape a better future for everyone.”
The report tells the story of the nonprofit community from the nonprofit perspective. It serves as a resource for nonprofit employees, board members, volunteers, donors, and each person whose life has been impacted by the work of charitable nonprofits – in other words, all of us.
