Join Minnesota Council of Nonprofits and the state’s top elections official, the Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon to learn more about proposed federal voting legislation and what it means for nonprofits. Some examples of federal voting legislation include: the SAVE America Act, The Voter Integrity Act, and Make Elections Great Again (MEGA) Act, just to name a few. Secretary Simon will lay out what these bills mean, the current bill status, and how they play into the fall 2026 midterm elections. You will leave this event better understanding the context of these bills and how they would impact both the democratic process and the nonprofit sector. Lastly, you will hear about the efforts of the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office to expand and protect voting rights.

Steve Simon
Minnesota’s 22nd Secretary of State
Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State
Steve Simon is Minnesota’s 22nd Secretary of State. He was sworn into office on January 5, 2015, and as Minnesota’s chief elections administrator pledged in his inaugural address to “work with anyone, of any political affiliation, from any part of our state” to protect, defend, and strengthen the right to vote in Minnesota.
As Secretary of State, he partners with township, city, and county officials to organize elections on behalf of Minnesota’s nearly four million eligible voters, and to ensure that the election system is fair.
Simon also oversees a wide range of services for Minnesota businesses and administers the “Safe at Home” address confidentiality program for people whose personal safety is at risk, often due to physical abuse or threats.
