LinkedIn for Nonprofits

LinkedIn is a social media platform that focuses on professional networking, making it a good fit for many nonprofits. Posts tend to revolve around professional topics like job hunting, marketing, HR, and technology, among others. LinkedIn can be a good space to connect with nonprofits who do similar work, as well as foundations and potential funders. Consider whether your core audience might be on LinkedIn, and if not, if it’s still useful to connect with others working in your field.

Creating a LinkedIn Page

One thing to note is that a LinkedIn page might already exist for your nonprofit. Make sure to do a search first, and if it already exists, you can claim it.

Nonprofit Tech for Good recommends that nonprofits post 2-4 times per week on LinkedIn. Some ideas for posts could be sharing recent research, timely news articles, or reposting content that you think will resonate with your audience. Videos are currently performing well on LinkedIn, so consider that as a vehicle for your content.

LinkedIn Advertising

LinkedIn advertising is definitely the most expense form of social media advertising. For many nonprofits, especially small ones, LinkedIn ads are out of reach for their budget. Like other social media advertising, it can be helpful for growing your reach and getting your content in front of people in the increasingly-crowded social media landscape.
